About the Event

The  Point in Time (PIT) Count is a census or count of all sheltered and unsheltered persons experiencing homelessness on a single night in January.  This year's PIT count in Newton County will take place on the night of January 22nd (8 pm) until the morning of January 23rd (5 am). During the PIT count, volunteers will commit to physically counting the number of volunteers in areas within Newton County. Volunteers will also conduct onsite surveys of those individuals experiencing homelessness using a virtual app.

Following the PIT count on the 22nd, volunteers participate in contacting by phone or visiting service providers in Newton County, conducting a survey of clients they serve experiencing homelessness. This process is called the Service based count.  This PIT count and service-based count helps to better assess the scope of homelessness in Newton County so we may better plan support services with stakeholders within Newton County and better position Newton County service providers for funding (both Federal, State, and other) as it relates to housing services.  This count is extremely important.
